‘Duchas’ – 18”x 28”, wools, silks, remnants, threads, beads.
This piece reflects a shared belonging spun across branches of our lives, rooting us in the places of our ancestors. Feeling the shared experiences rooted in the landscape around us. Rich autumnal colours reflect the splendour of the mountains and their ancient legends and lore. The dark sky is dancing with our ancestral spirits that guide us on our journey.
Caóilfíonn’s work for ‘Silver’ centres around feelings of belonging. Belonging to her tribe of likeminded and supportive artists underneath the creaking boughs of Bridge Street Studios has greatly affected her progression as an artist and given her a sense of belief in trusting her instincts. In the words of Barbara’s poem, Caóilfíonn took solace in the notion that each new day, no matter how dark, brings new things, hope is on the horizon. The bleakness of 2020 made her take stock of her native haunts in Covid 19 restrictions, step out of the race and appreciate the beauty and importance of simple pleasures.
