‘Words do Weave’, watercolours on paper, 30x30cm
Here Orla has created a drawing of symbols that illustrate the words of the poem ‘Silver’ written by Barbara Smith to mark our 25th year studio anniversary. She wanted to convey the journey and cyclical tone of the poem in an ornate design.
For my work in ‘Silver’ I wanted to create paintings that would reflect the sense of celebration of our 25th studio anniversary along with my interpretation of Barbara’s beautiful poem.
I painted 8 tiny magical watercolours like precious treasures choosing circles to mirror the cyclical tone of the poem. The imagery embraces the enchantment of nature. I felt a connection between the cycle of nature in the poem and that of life itself and the renewal and resilience we build over time. I also made 2 larger paintings which are based on an ornate design of symbols I made to illustrate the words of the poem.
