Flowerets
The idea of these pieces came from the Victorian custom of giving posies of flowers called Tussie Mussies. The “flowerets” are arranged as a whole to mimic a garden or a posy of flowers. As a child gardening and flowers were always a part of our household.
Rachels’ initial research for the exhibition Silver began during the start of lockdown and her work is intrinsically linked to the poem and the emotional undercurrents of that period in her life.
Time was spent in reflection and the cycle of life, the family bonds and the past that binds us.
Rachel was drawn to the words “entwining strings” the threads and connections that pull emotionally, physically and spiritually- these can be suffocating but alternatively liberating, “as the sun reveals tendrils of morning, a new day”
